August 6- A Pittsboro man was arrested on Monday for failing to register as a sex offender. Peter John Mein, 47, of 150 Kimberly lane, Siler City was arrested by Chatham County Sheriff’s Deputy Chris Burger after a warrant was issued for his arrest. Under law, defendants convicted of sex offenses are required to register with the Sheriff of the county that they reside in and report any changes of address. Failing to comply with these guidelines is a felony and is punishable up to 4 years in prison.
Mein was arrested after a standard compliance check was conducted of an address he claimed to reside at on 1249 Manco Dairy Road, Pittsboro. He was found not to be living at that address and therefore in violation of the sex offender law. He was jailed under a $10,000.00 secured bond and is scheduled to appear in Chatham County District Court in Pittsboro on August 15.
