CHAPEL HILL MAN CHARGED WITH STATUTORY RAPE

June 11- A Chapel Hill man has been arrested for 4 counts of Statutory Rape, 4 counts of Statutory Sex Offense and 4 counts of Indecent Liberties with a Child after he was accused of having sex with a 15 year old female minor. Chatham County Detectives began working the case last year when they received information from the Department of Social Services.

DSS workers advised officers they had obtained information that Leonard Scurlock, 32, of 269 A Williams Circle, Chapel Hill had gotten the minor pregnant and there is evidence supporting that the suspect is the father of that child that was later born. Chatham County Deputies arrested Scurlock last September for one count of Statutory Rape. More evidence was gathered and he was indicted last month for the additional charges.

He was arrested Monday and was jailed under a $250,000.00 secured bond and is scheduled to appear in Chatham County District Court in Pittsboro on July 11.
