May 25 - The Chatham County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a subject who is believed to be connected to a robbery in Northern Chatham County. On May 18, Phillip Bruff of Cedar Village, Chapel Hill reported that Keith Carmichael, 50, of 418 Mt. Pisgah Church Road, Apex stole his truck from him in the parking lot of the Citgo Convenient Store at Cole Park Plaza. Bruff attempted to open the door of the 2007 Toyota Tacoma Truck and Carmichael sped away knocking him to the ground.
On Friday morning, Chatham County Sheriff Richard Webster sent out a special duty force of about 5 officers to search for the suspect and vehicle because of his serious criminal record. At approximately 12:35 am, Deputies arrested Carmichael at his home without incident. The vehicle has not yet been recovered.
Carmichael was charged with Felonious Common law Robbery, Felonious Larceny of a Motor Vehicle and Felonious Possession of a Stolen Vehicle. He was jailed under a $20,000.00 secured bond and is scheduled to appear in Chatham County District Court in Pittsboro on June 13.
