SILER CITY MAN ARRESTED FOR BREAKING AND ENTERING

May 22- The Chatham County Sheriff’s Office arrested a Siler City man on Tuesday in reference to a Breaking and Entering that occurred at the Silk Hope Service Station on May 16. A suspect broke into the Service Station in the early hours last Wednesday and stole approximately $300 dollars worth of scratch off Lottery tickets. The suspect kicked the safety glass out of the front door to gain entry to the premises. Investigators were notified by Security Specialist Bruce Foster that the stolen tickets were being passed in Providence, North Carolina.

The store owner where the tickets had been cashed was contacted and he was able to review his surveillance video and find footage of the suspect passing the stolen tickets. The store owner then notified the Caswell County Sheriff’s Office of the activity. Lieutenant Gerald Brown of the Caswell County Sheriff’s Office arrested Derek Deleon Taylor, 29, of 111 South 7th Street, Siler City for the crime. Taylor was also identified by another store clerk in the area who recognized the suspect from a photograph the Caswell County Sheriff’s Office had disseminated in the area. He is currently in the custody of the Caswell County Sheriff’s Office. He was jailed under a $30,000.00 secured bond and is scheduled to appear in Chatham County District Court in Pittsboro on June 6.
