February 23 - The Chatham County Sheriff’s Office arrested Zachary Harwood, 25, of 6 Sunset Drive, Weaverville, NC ON Friday in connection with an incident that he was involved with and charged on January 29. On that day, Pittsboro Police Officers and Chatham County Deputies were responding to an Armed Robbery call at the Subway on East Street. The suspect was described as white male, about 6 ft tall and medium build. They were also looking for a small red car that was seen in the area. The suspect got away with the cash register drawer with an undisclosed amount of money.
Deputies located the suspect, Mr. Harwood on Hwy 902 and led officers on a very dangerous high speed chase. The suspect attempted to carjack a vehicle near the exit ramp of US 64 and US 15-501 near Northwood High School but was subdued by Chatham County Sheriff’s ICE Team officers without further incident.
Harwood was charged on January 29th with numerous charges which include Felonious Armed Robbery, Felonious Assault with a Deadly Weapon on a Government Official, Resisting Arrest and Felonious Speeding to Elude Arrest. He was charged on Friday with Felonious Attempted Larceny of a Motor Vehicle surrounding the carjacking incident.
He is currently jailed under a $403,000.00 secured bond and appeared in Chatham County District Court in Pittsboro on February 23 for this additional charge.
