January 10- Deputies of the Chatham County Sheriff’s Office attempted to stop a subject near Gulf on Wednesday evening night and when the suspect refused to stop, a 7-mile pursuit began.
Captain Roy Allen of the Chatham County Sheriff’s Office was returning home from work and observed a 1985 Blue Plymouth Horizon parked down his driveway in southern Chatham County. When Captain Allen activated is blue lights in an attempt to identify the subject, the suspect jumped the ditch with his vehicle and the chase began. He attempted to stop the vehicle and the subject drove throughout southern Chatham County and into Lee County at speeds that exceeded 70 miles per hour. Additional Chatham County deputies responded and assisted in the chase.
The subject finally pulled off the road near the Sanford city limits. Officers from the North Carolina Highway Patrol in Lee County assisted in the chase and were instrumental in getting the driver to stop his vehicle. The suspect, Jeffrey Lynn Miller, 43, of Spring Lake refused to exit his vehicle and had to be forced out. He was arrested without further incident with numerous traffic charges which include; Careless and Reckless Driving and Fleeing to Elude Arrest. Deputies from the Chatham County Sheriff’s ICE Team arrived and found cocaine in his possession. No one was injured in the pursuit.
Miller was later charged with Felonious Possession of Cocaine and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. He was jailed under a $40,000.00 secured bond and is scheduled to appear in Chatham County District Court in Pittsboro on January 17.
