SUSPECT SHOT IN DRUG RAID IN STABLE CONDITION

April 14- A man was shot by a Chatham County Sheriff’s Office deputy during the service of a search warrant near Siler City late Sunday evening. At approximately 11:00 pm, the Chatham County Sheriff’s Special Incident response Team (SIRT) and the Sheriff’s Narcotics Unit were attempting to search a residence for illegal narcotics located at 75 Irene Court, Siler City.

Deputies encountered an armed man with a handgun inside the mobile home and several shots were fired. The suspect, a Hispanic male whose name will not be released at this time was shot multiple times and was treated at the scene immediately after the incident by SIRT tactical medical personnel. He was later transported by helicopter to UNC Hospital where he is in serious but stable condition.

Chatham County authorities immediately contacted the NC State Bureau of Investigation to conduct an internal investigation of the shooting. No other individuals were injured during the incident.

A subsequent search of the premises was conducted and several kilos of narcotics were seized. As of this release, the exact weight has not been determined.
