The mission of the Chatham County Sheriff’s Office is to work with the citizens of Chatham County to preserve life, maintain human rights, protect property, and promote individual responsibility and community commitment.

Commitment

The Chatham County Sheriff’s Office is committed to providing high-quality, Community Oriented Police services with sensitivity.

Community Oriented Policing

The Chatham County Sheriff’s Office has adopted a community based philosophy that recognizes the interdependence and shared responsibility of law enforcement and community in crime reduction and prevention. This philosophy allows greater coordination with other county departments, public and private social agencies, and citizens to address crime-related problems and issues.
Community Oriented Policing strengthens the partnership among citizens, law enforcement, and public/private agencies. All are joint shareholders in the vitality and livability of Chatham County’s neighborhoods and business districts. This approach helps identify and provide remedies for root causes of crime and disorder.

Crime Prevention

"A prevention of attitudes and behaviors directed both at reducing the threat of crime and enhancing the sense of safety and security, to positively influence the quality of life in our society, and to help develop environments where crime cannot flourish."
- Crime Prevention Coalition.
